Ever wanted to create your very own wooden wand? Don’t have any of the “fancy tools” to do so? No worries, in this step-by-step course Vander will take you through the wand making process using as few tools as possible. No Lathe needed.
In this first lesson from Vander’s DIY wand course, he will show you the tools you’ll need as well as getting started with roughing out your wands overall shape. The following lessons throughout the month will pick up where we leave off, adding more details and refining the overall look of your hand crafted wand.
Wood to bring:
Whatever you’d like. Whether it be a squared turning blank bought from a local hardwood store/wood supplier, a rounded dowel, or a well dried branch that you’ve been holding on to for just this occasion.
Tools you will need:
$15 (Mini Planer) + $14 (Hand Carving Knife Set) + $32 (X-Acto, EPIX5082, Basic Knife Chest) + $5 (Cut Resistant Gloves) + $5 (Needle File set) $20 (2-1/2 in. Table Swivel Vise) and Sandpaper (100, 150, and 220 grit)
About $90 Total.
Optional tools: $100 (Dremel) + $35 (Flex shaft)
I will show and discuss these tools, but I will be sticking to the “Tools You Will Need” list for the duration of the wand making lesson.
