Costume Contest

ANNOUNCEMENT

Unfortunately due to insufficient entries, the costume contest is cancelled for this year. In it’s place we will be playing “Wand-O” for attendees chance to win free wands and or other products and discounts.

Participating:

In order to take part in the costume contest you must first be a registered attendee with the event.

Prejudging:

If you’d like to take part in the live costume contest please email masterwandmakers@gmail.com subject line “WandTober Costume Submission” with up to 5 photos of your outfit, one full distance shot, and up to four close up/detail shots. Due to limited livestream event time the submitted contestants will be pre-screened and narrowed down to the top 6 submissions prior to the live costume contest portion of the event. This group of 6 will be called up “on stage” during the event to showcase their costumes live (we’ll also make a short video highlighting “honorable mentions” from other submitted works as well as including your social media handles). A panel of cosplay judges will score the contestants narrowing it down to the top three and the audience will then vote for their favorite of the remaining three. The person with the most votes will win a cash prize.

Contestants should be in costume and be prepared to talk about construction. Reference picture recommended for any character that isn’t a 100% original design. Costumes should follow the guidelines listed in the category descriptions.

Competition:

“Lineup” will take place after introducing the guest judges and brief Q&A. Being that this is the first annual livestream WandTober event, there is only one category for submission, best in show. We would love to broaden this in following years to include other categories such as: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and so on.

Costume Contest Rules:

  • Single individual costumes only (no group costumes at this time).
  • Each contestant will be afforded up to 5 minutes to “strut their stuff”. This can be a short pre-recorded video (must be uploaded to YouTube as an “Unlisted Video” and link shared in advance to the live judging) or a live “Catwalk” of sorts, where you move about and display you costume from various angles.
  • No nudity.
  • No profanity allowed “on stage”/while on the live video feed. That includes messages on signs or clothes.

Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.

  • No political or religious statement during the “catwalk”. Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.
  • For your own safety we discourage projectiles of any kind, particularly any that include sparks (fireworks or equivalent) that may cause an unsafe environment for you and any others that are with you at your home. If you violate this caution you may be disqualified from the contest.

No flashpots, explosive devices, or similar special effects are to be used. Anyone
who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition.

Points will be awarded in the following areas:

  • Most original costume/best replica costume (Please provide reference photos with your email submission, these will not count against the 5 photo limit for your costume).
  • Execution
  • Stage presence

The live voting will take place on the 30th of October.
